A little Hmong puppy living up in the mountains in northern Vietnam. This little one is safe with his family in Sapa, but thousands of dogs don’t end up so lucky. Dog meat is a popular choice in many Southeast Asian countries.

The Giant South American grasshopper looks like it’s been plucked straight from prehistoric times - this one was our friend for a few hours at a selective logging camp in Iwokrama, Guyana.

A yellow-banded poison dart frog on route back to her burrow. The famous toxicity this group of frogs possess comes from eating certain arthropods and is secreted from their skin.

This girl ran out to meet us as we passed through her little village in Ream National Park, Cambodia. A local ranger said that a Buddhist monk had seen a tiger near here not long ago. Even though we didn’t see any signs ourselves, it’s nice to imagine they are still in this part of the country.

Ankor Wat is the largest religious monument on Earth. It has passed from a place of Hindu worship to Buddhist in its time but has stood for approximately 900 years.

Laos is full of beautiful waterfalls, this one is just outside Luang Prabang.

A much more eclectic set of commuters in Bangkok, Thailand.

Imperial moths are widely distributed across the Americas in different colour morphs. This one here has evolved to look almost identical to a rotten leaf from the poplar tree.

Cat Ba island off the east coast of Vietnam holds the last remaining habitat for the critically endangered White-headed Langur. The species has declined by 80% over the last three generations but due to new protection laws there is hope. As it stands, there are less than 70 individuals left in the wild. Somewhere in this tangled forest, we were hoping to spot them.

Dung beetle abundance and diversity are very good indicators of ecosystem health in the rainforest. These were collected during a study in Guyana.

The road that cuts through otherwise pristine primary rainforest from Georgetown, Guyana to Lethem and eventually the border of Brazil.

Emerald tree boas spend their days coiled up over branches in the Amazon. At night, their incredible prehensile body allows them to hang down and strike at passing prey.

A little whip scorpion I found in a cave in the Amazon. These guys are neither spiders nor scorpions but in a group all on their own. When hunting in the dark they take advantage of their long set of front legs that have sophisticated sensory properties to feel out prey, tap it on the back and scare it straight into their jaws.

A forest fire has cleared an area giving this forest falcon a better vantage point for spotting prey.

The traditional way of drying and curing meats for the Makushi tribe in the northern Amazon. These pieces were used in a preserved cassava based curry called pepperpot.

Guyana has the highest known diversity of bats in the world for a protected area. This rare and amazing yellow-eared bat was one of my favourite captures.

A riverside swim in the Essequibo with some of the Makushi tribe. A couple of days after this, a giant river otter swam past us barely two metres away.

This beautiful green-winged macaw, taken from her rainforest home, was in a tiny cage by the side of the road near Georgetown, Guyana. These birds mate for life. It’s sad to think how long her partner and her might have been together, and how they’ll never see each other again.

Another amazing waterfall, this time near Sihanoukville, Cambodia, hidden in the mountains.
